In December 2017 City Skydive had the opportunity to organize the first national championships for indoor skydiving for the disciplines; Dynamic, Freestyle and VFS.
This first edition was a successful event in several aspects. 25 participants from 5 different countries were competing for the titles.
After a joint briefing about the event with all participants, the teams started on Friday evening with a short warm-up round. During the warm-up all teams fly 2 minutes to determine their final flight speed and pass it on to the organization. After that, the battles could begin!
Dutch Indoor Skydiving Championships
For the Dutch title in formation flying, or 'belly flying', Indoor Skydive Roosendaal (ISR) has been organising championships for many years. All major disciplines are therefore covered in the Netherlands! This means that the 'ISR Grand Prix' and the 'Double Dutch', held at City Skydive, together form the 'Dutch Indoor Skydiving Championships' (DISC). And we are very proud of that!
A total of 4 teams competed for the title in the VFS category. It was not very exciting because the VFS KaRTel from Tom, Sofia, Kim and Ryan blew the other teams away. With a whopping 25 points difference VFS KaRTel won from Very Fu*ing Slow (2nd). After that, the differences were smaller, the NoPro's placed themselves as 3rd and VFSofia just missed the podium by getting the fourth place.

The competition for Dynamic 2-way was flown in two classes, 'Open' and 'Intermediate'. The participants from the intermediate class got a custom routine to lower the difficulty level slightly. This does not make it any less spectacular!
The 'Ice Hogs', 'Fry or Fly Bottrop' and the 'ISR Dynamic Dutchies' competed in the main class for the coveted title in eight speedrounds. In no less than 6 out of 8 rounds, Fry or Fly Bottrop was able to pull the fastest time and got the first place. However, because the entire team was not Dutch, the official title was given to the ISR Dynamic Dutchies.
In the intermediate class things got a little less exciting. 'NoBé' was able to defeat 'To Fast TOFUrious' in all eight rounds and thus won the gold medal.

Within the freestyle discipline, two classes were defined. The main class (Open) and the junior class. The original routines of the participants in the main class made for an exciting match where the first place was won by Krysia Wnuk that beat Ryan Christie with only a slight margin. The third place was for Arno Declerq.
Especially Krysia created a spectacle by flying her routines in sync with her music. It made her routines look like an artistic dance with the wind!

In the main class a number of free but also mandatory routines are flown, but the juniors only do five free rounds. During these rounds they can express themselves en show off their skills. It was especially fascinating to see the 7-year-old Finn Driessen that shot up and down the 20-meter-high tube, jumping from wall to wall and throwing some somersaults in between. Finn finished third behind Marnix van Hamersveld (2nd) and Julian de Bruycker (1st).
